Melissa Michael
When I am in my studio, surrounded by morning sunlight streaming through the windows and my hands full of clay, the making process becomes a meditation. If I stay in that making process long enough, time seems to disappear and that magical state of creative flow takes over. Handcrafted objects made by someone swimming in the "flow" hold a spiritual energy that is not present in commercially manufactured goods. Pick up my pottery and you are likely to feel it... find the ridges where my hands pulled the clay upward in the walls of a bowl, or where my fingers pressed into the clay to attach a handle on a mug. These are the maker's marks that potters have been leaving behind for thousands of years.
